Affirm1776 is the public identity of a Georgia-registered 501(c)(3) public charity working in American history, cultural heritage, and public education.
Who we are
Our registered legal name is American Foundation For Furtheringideas That Rekindle The Miracle Of Affirm1776. It is a long name, and a deliberate one — but it is not what people call us.
In public we are Affirm1776. The year is the subject: 1776 as a documented historical moment rather than a slogan, and the long argument about self-government that ran before and after it.
Affirm1776 exists to help people encounter American history as it was actually recorded: in documents, in places, and in the work of the institutions that preserve them. As a historical-society organization, our purpose is educational rather than political — to make the founding era, and the long American story that follows from it, understandable to students, families, researchers, and neighbours who were never given a way in.
The foundation has held federal tax-exempt status since September 2007 — 18 years of registered operation as a public charity in Hart County, Georgia.
We publish only what we can substantiate. A fuller account of the foundation’s origins, the people behind it, and the work carried out over those years belongs on this page, and will be added here as the organization documents and confirms it. Until then this section stays short rather than becoming decorative.
The founding era survives in letters, journals, petitions, and printed debate — most of it public, and most of it never read outside a seminar room.

What guides the work
The American founding and the constitutional settlement that followed it, approached as documented history: what the sources say, when they were written, and what they can reasonably be held to establish. Where the record is contested or incomplete, we say so.
History belongs to the humanities. We treat the founding era alongside the material culture, printing, portraiture, architecture, and civic craft through which it represented itself — the objects and images that shaped how the period was understood then and since.
Method before conclusion. A reader who can locate a source, weigh it, and check it against another has been given something more durable than a set of facts. Everything we publish is written to be understood without prior training.
