Accessibility Statement

Affirm1776 is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use.

Keyboard

Every link, button, form field, and disclosure can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible, the navigation drawer traps focus while open and returns it on close, and a skip link jumps straight to the main content.

Contrast and colour

Text and interface colours are chosen to meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios. Colour is never the only way meaning is conveyed — the active navigation item carries an underline as well as a colour change, and form errors carry an icon and a message.

Structure and screen readers

Pages use semantic HTML with one H1 and a correct heading order, landmark regions, descriptive link text, labelled form fields, and ARIA only where native elements cannot do the job.

Motion

Animation is limited to short, single-pass fades and lifts. When your system requests reduced motion, all of it is disabled — nothing on this site moves continuously, flashes, or parallaxes.

Conformance target

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Conformance has been assessed through internal review and automated testing during development. No independent third-party audit has been carried out; if one is commissioned, its findings will be summarised here.

What we have done

  • Semantic HTML throughout — headings in order, lists as lists, landmarks for navigation, main content, and the footer.
  • A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Visible focus indicators with a minimum 2px outline and clear offset.
  • Touch targets on mobile sized to at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Form fields with persistent visible labels, hint text tied to the field with aria-describedby, errors announced through a live region, and focus moved to the first field needing attention.
  • Full support for prefers-reduced-motion.
  • Decorative illustrations hidden from assistive technology, with the meaning carried in adjacent text.
  • Text that reflows without loss of content at 320px width and remains readable at 200% zoom.

Known limitations

We are not aware of any outstanding barriers at the time of the last review. Two areas we watch:

  • External collections linked from this site are maintained by other institutions and may not meet the same standard. We have no control over their accessibility.
  • Any future content supplied as PDF or image will need accessible alternatives before publication.

Please describe what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and the assistive technology or browser you were using, and send it through our contact form. We will acknowledge your message and tell you what we intend to do.
